Moving With Kids – Furniture Removals
Moving can be an extremely stressful experience, especially if you have children. Young children don’t always understand why you need to move or what home moving even means. It’s important to talk to them well in advance, and address all their questions and concerns. Changes can be scary, but there are a few things you can do to make moving easier for your children.
Let them know ahead of time that you are planning to move. The home is where they feel comfortable and secure. Children get very attached to familiar places and things. The prospect of home moving can be very scary. They might be afraid of losing their things and leaving their friends. Settling in a new house and going to a new school is very stressful. You need to talk to your children at least a few weeks before you plan to move, and answer any questions they might have.
Explain in detail why you are moving and what the process entails. Young children might know what moving means in general, but they don’t understand exactly what will happen. Tell them that they’ll be able to keep all of their favorite things, and bring them along to their new home. Bring up some positive aspects of moving such as new places to explore and new friends to play with.
Take your children with you when you are searching for a new home. Since you’ll all be sharing it, it’s important that your children feel as comfortable in their new home as you will. Make them feel like they are a part of the whole process. Ask for their feedback and feelings. It’s also a good idea to take a look around the neighborhood. Show them the local park or take them out to eat.
Involve your children in all your preparations. Teach them how to pack. Make moving arrangements together. Take them along to shop for moving supplies like boxes and tape. Ask them for their advice about which moving company to get. You might not take it, but asking them for help will make them feel included.
Plan a big party and invite all of your children’s friends. This will lessen the stress of moving, and give your children something to look forward to. They might have a hard time leaving their friends, so having a going away party will give them a chance to say good-bye to all of them.
Prepare them for their new school. One of the most stressful aspects of moving for children is going to a new school. Talk to them about it, and touch on the positives such as meeting new classmates and teachers. Get them as excited as possible to discover new places and get new friends.
Young children can have a very difficult time understanding why you need to move and what home moving even means. You can make the whole process easier by talking with them ahead of time. Listen to their concerns and take them seriously. Being honest and answering any questions your children have will make them much more comfortable with moving.
