How to Avoid Stress When Moving to a New Home
There is hardly anyone who hasn’t moved to a new house or flat or even different city at one point or another in their lives. There are various reasons for changing location, such as getting another job, moving to the new husband or wife, needing more space or simply a need for change. Although every move, whether it is in the same town or an entirely different state, is stressful, once it is over, most of the times becomes quite rewarding. However in order to become a success, each moving needs to be organized and planned ahead of time.
Some people see it as a frustration, others as something exciting and fun in their lives. There are many things that one needs to take care of when organizing the move, such as buying enough sturdy boxes, packing material and tape to hold it all together, packing everything away, cleaning the house and so on. All these have to be done and the better the planning and organization, the easier its execution will be.
This is the time to get rid of everything you consider junk that you have accumulated throughout the years but never had the heart to throw away. You can safely eliminate this from your life knowing that you will start collecting other stuff in the new location in a jiffy. It is just human nature to accumulate, to gather things and hold on to material stuff, so even if one is not moving away, a proper spring cleaning could be worth doing, where everything that has not been used for a year can go.
To do the best of eliminating not needed items, you can split the house in different parts, such as the kitchen, the bathroom, the various rooms, and then examine each area separately. For example maybe the bed is already too squeaky and too old and just turning over the mattress will no longer do. This is when it is worthwhile considering buying a new bed in the other location altogether and leaving the old one behind.
All the things that will not be taken to the new house or flat should be packed in boxes (unless they are too big for them, such as the bed) and depending on their uses, they can be given away to thrift stores, to needy families, or sometimes even a garage sale will do. A garage sale or yard sale is useful to cover some of the moving costs such as when a truck rental for moving is used, as this is not cheap to use at all. Also donating older clothes to the Red Cross or other charities is a kind gesture that many poorer families will appreciate and bless you for it.
A very important aspect of moving is packing up of the items to be transported, such as glassware, china, and all the things that might break. These need to be carefully packed, each separately, to not break during the move. Using such a moving truck rental will be very useful as they know exactly how to transport everything so all the items arrive unharmed to the new destination.
Getting to a new home can be a difficult experience, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. If everything is carefully organized and all the steps are done correctly without haste, the move will be an effortless process that people will remember fondly of through the years to come.
